9:00 AM - 9:30 AM                WELCOME ADDRESS and ATTENDEE INTRODUCTIONS

9:30 AM - 10:30 AM              CUSTOMS TRADE PARTNERSHIP AGAINST TERRORISM (C-TPAT)

Bob Boyle, ASCDI Legal Counsel, will comment on: (1) restrictions and limitations imposed on importing goods into the United States for resale; and (2) on recently introduced legislation proposing to: (i) grant OEM's broader access to information from US Customs and Border Protection, including the ability to obtain samples of goods for further inspection; (ii) requiring the development of certification programs qualifying certain importers to benefits from CBP including decreased inspections; and (iii) the creation of a "hit list" of of importers who have a history of attempting to import infringing articles qualifying them for increased inspections.

Following Bob Boyle's introduction, Shawn Beddows and Michael Filsinger, Representations from the US CUSTOMS BORDER PROTECTION, C-TPAT PROGAM will give an overview on the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) Program.

C-TPAT is a US government business initiative that was introduced in 2001.  It is designed to strengthen overall supply chain and border security by working in close cooperation with key members of the supply chain - importer, carriers, brokers, warehouse operators and manufacturers.

Businesses must apply to participate in C-TPAT, which can be done via the US Customs website.  Shipments from participants in C-TPAT will be able to move across US borders quicker than non-member shipments, because Customs will offer potential benefits to C-TPAT members, most notably a reduced number of inspections (reduced border times).

William Thermann, Thermann Assocites and Security Consultant, will discuss how you can participate in this program.

After retiring from the Cranford Police Department in June of 1998, William Thermann obtained his Private Detective License from the State of New Jersey, incorporating and forming Thermann Associates Inc. in September of 1998.  This agency provides professional consulting in the security field to private industry.

10:45 AM - 11:45 AM                COUNTERFEIT IT EQUIPMENT UPDATE

Counterfeit IT equipment is showing up in a lot of places, including Federal Government installations.  The Government and Commercial customers are concerned about this growing trend.

The ASCDI has been working on this issue for a while now.  Join representatives from the FBI, Neil Vill, Jordan Wolfe, Thomas Weltin and Joe Marion as they bring you up to date on ASCDI plans to deal with counterfeit and solicit your input on the road forward.

Here’s how the race will work (I can’t give you too much information or it will spoil the fun):

Those attendees that are signed up for the race will meet in the ballroom, meet your teams, get your race kits, and hear the rules of the race.   Teams will then hit the road trying to find items on the list, completing challenges, and collecting points.  Teams must work together and decide how they are going to get as many points as possible.  On the way, there will be roadblocks that each team must perform.  The roadblock will be located at a bar allowing all the teams a chance to come together for part of the time.  At the final location, points will be tallied and the winning team will be announced.  As an added incentive, the winning team will get $1,000.00 towards the charity of their choice.

The cost to participate in the race is $75.00 per person.  Proceeds will go to the ASCDI Charity Foundation for college scholarships.

As you can see, there’s TONS of planning that needs to take place in advance to make this race run smoothly.  That is why we are asking you to sign up NOW!  We will not be able to sign you up at the conference and we would hate to leave someone out of this really cool event.

10:45 AM - 11:30 AM                IBM BASICS and NEW BUSINESS DEVELOPMENTS

11:30 PM - 12:30 PM                 KEYNOTE PRESENTATION:  "IBM's ENERGY EFFICIENCY INITIATIVES - GREEN IT AND SMART ELECTRIC GRID"

Green IT Expert John Lamb, PhD

Keynote Speaker, John Lamb is a Senior Technical Staff Member and IBM Senior Certified IT Architect for IBM Global Business Services. A senior member of the IEEE and ASME engineering societies, he has published more than 50 technical papers and articles. He has also authored five books, including "The Greening of IT: How Companies Can Make a Difference for the Environment", published in May 2009. He holds a B.A. from the University of Notre Dame and a Ph.D. in Engineering Science from the University of California at Berkeley.

SUMMARY OF PRESENTATION:

Green IT and the Smart Electric Grid are significant parts of the “Green” concepts that will help us reduce greenhouse gases which in turn will help reduce global warming. Recent UN and White House sessions on climate change emphasize the environmental importance of “Green” projects. Implementing green data centers and green IT, in addition to helping save the world, can also be very financially rewarding. According to IDC, by 2010 for every $1 spent on hardware, 70 cents will be spent on power and cooling and by 2012 for every $1 spent on hardware, $1 will be spent on power and cooling. IBM’s “Big Green” presentations on Green Data Centers have generated significant customer interest throughout the world. In May 2007 IBM announced Project Big Green, a redirection of $1 billion USD per year across its businesses to increase the energy efficiency of IBM products and services. Green IT technology covers a broad spectrum from efficient cooling towers and variable speed blowers, to the use of energy efficient IT systems such as virtual servers, blade centers, and virtual data storage.

The Smart Electric Grid is one of the significant areas for promoting green energy in the US Government's $800 billion stimulus package. Our power grids are the largest remaining artifacts of the Industrial Age and they are due for a smart upgrade. Using broadband data streams, digital sensors and advanced analytics, demand can be understood in real time. Utility companies can source and manage power more intelligently, helping to bring renewable sources onto the grid. Consumers could understand the variable cost of power and alter their behavior accordingly. A smarter utility network could also handle the growing demand for hybrid and electric cars. Today's utility grid would struggle to manage this burden. IBM is currently working on several Smart Grid projects including a project for a smart electric grid for the island country of Malta off the coast of Italy. This session will discuss the status and future of worldwide green IT and smart grid technologies and projects.

1Jon William Toigo, CEO2:30 PM - 2:00 PM              LUNCHEON PRESENTATION: JON WILLIAM TOIGO

Sustainable Green IT: A Fact-Based Approach to Solving the Data Center Power Conundrum

Green IT has become a front burner issue for senior management in business today.  Whether “green” refers to carbon footprint and climate change, or to the color of all of the money that is being spent to pay for costly – and in some cases, hard to come by – utility power service, it is and will continue to be an issue that impacts IT decision-making.  In this presentation, Jon Toigo will argue that storage, not servers, has become the biggest power pig in the data center.  He will examine industry options for reducing storage power consumption and present an alternative view of the greenest piece of hardware in anyone’s shop today:  the Delete key.

Social Media For Business - Seminar Description:

Social Media (especially LinkedIn, Facebook, Youtube and Twitter) is one of the hottest phenomena in the history of marketing.   For little or no cost, a small company can launch a marketing campaign that can rival that of much larger companies, just by having some compelling content that causes a “word of mouth storm” through the Internet, gathering fans, followers and potential customers as it goes.

In this session, I’ll show you how LinkedIn, Facebook, You Tube and Twitter can be used for your business. You will learn:

  • the hottest new trends in social media
  • techniques you can use to implement each service in your marketing plan
  • many undocumented tips that I have discovered about using each one
    • (Hint: did you put your maiden name in your LinkedIn and Facebook profiles?)
  • some case studies of how they are being used
  • how you can (and should) measure ROI

and you'll have fun learning it.

Come join us to learn about the cutting edge of social media, and find out how you can transform your business before your competition transforms their business.
